Project description
MADRAS (Metadata and Archival Description Registry and Analysis System) is a web-based tool for developing, registering, and evaluating record-keeping related metadata schemas and archival description standards. It was as part of the International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems 2 (InterPARES 2) Project. InterPARES has been an 8-year, multi-million dollar project involving archival researchers, practitioners, and institutions, scientists and artists from North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
MADRAS also allows users to submit schemas for analysis by InterPARES researchers. During the analysis process, schemas are measured against several existing international standards and guidelines. The analytical framework developed is being incorporated as Part III of the ISO 23081 Standard on Records Management Metadata.
MADRAS development has been funded by the National Science Foundation and U.S. National Historical Records and Publication Commission, as well as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
